Unacademy acquires K-10 online learning platform Swiflern

EdTech unicorn Unacademy has acquired Gurugram-based Swiflearn, an online learning platform that provides live face-to-face online tutoring for students in grades 1 to 10 of CBSE and ICSE.

Although the company did not disclose the amount of the deal, a press statement said the acquisition was in line with Unacademy’s plans to strengthen its position in the K-12 category and optimize product offerings in space.

Founded in 2019 by Abhinav Agarwal And Anand Bakode, both an IIT Bombay graduate, Swiflern is an online platform for academic courses and offers personalized home tutoring experience from top quality teachers. The platform aims to transform offline learning into a fully online incarnation.

Swiflearn offers online tutoring classes for English, math and science and other areas of education such as mental abilities, life skills and Vedic mathematics. The startup uses the latest technology, proven teaching techniques and teaching methods, focusing on laying a strong ideological foundation for children’s higher education.

Commenting on the edit, Gaurav Munjal, CEO and co-founder of Unacademi Group, said,

Swiflern currently has more than 1,500 teachers. It conducts more than 30,000 classes per month and has more than 120,000 registered students on its platform. The Gurugram-based company, led by some angel investors including Stellaris Venture Partners, Venture Highway, Varun Alagh (founder of Mamaarth), Ramakant in June 2021, raised $ 3 million (₹ 21.9 crore) in the pre-Series A funding round in June 2021. Sharma (founder of Livspace), and Alok Mittal (founder of Indifi).

Abhinav Agarwal, co-founder of Swiflern, said,

Unacademy was founded in 2015 by Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh and Roman Saini and has a network of over 60,000 registered teachers and over 62 million learners on its platform. The company has been preparing for the acquisition for the past year. In March this year, Handa Ka Fanda bought Jaipur-based online coaching platform for various competitive exams, and in February, acquired a majority stake in TapChief, a professional networking and futures-work platform. Unacademy had earlier launched Delhi-based online exam preparation platform Kreatryx in April last year, CodeChef in June, Chandigarh-based medical preparation platform PrepLadder and K-12 learning platform Mastery in July, UPSC test preparation platform Corsive in September, and Neostensil in December.
