Newsella provides a wide range of reading materials for students

Newsella is an educational platform that provides level cross-curricular reading material for k-12 students. Newsela’s informative content is aligned with the standards and is designed to optimize students ’learning and motivate them to read. Teachers can use it to enrich their lessons and create engaging learning experiences in and out of the classroom.

Newsella Provides a number of non-fiction texts (and some fictional stories) from more than 100 authoritative sources in the publishing field, such as: History, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, PBS Newshor, Scientific American, Smithsonian, World History Encyclopedia, and others. .

There are more than 20 styles of nonfiction content including news articles, primary sources, reference texts, essays, problem overviews, basic text and more. This reading material is published in 5 reading levels. Students can choose a level that suits their literacy skills. Also, each “text comes with embedded reading comprehension quiz that promotes core reading skills.” Most importantly, the text of the newsletter is updated daily with fresh and timely content.

Newsel offers two versions of the account: a free account that comes with some basic features and a premium account that offers more features and reading material. Paid users also have access to assignment and reporting tools. Assign them “quizzes aligned with subject-specific standards to support background knowledge and skill development.” Teachers can track students’ progress in real time and get detailed reports on their performance. Using the NWEA Map Growth Reading Score, teachers will automatically set students’ reading levels. On their side, students are able to check their progress over time.
