New Google Drive Update: Now you can access Office files embedded in Docs, Sheets and Slides

Google Announced An interesting new feature for Google Docs, Sheets and Slides today allows users to view embedded Office files in their documents and / or download or copy them directly to Drive. According to Google, the purpose of this new update is to create a ‘continuous work experience’.

With this new update, you can access embedded office files in your existing office files from Docs, Slides and Sheets. When you hover your mouse over an embedded file, you have the option to view it in preview mode or add it to your drive. This feature is available to Google Workspace users as well as to individual Google Accounts.

Google added built-in support for Microsoft Productivity Tools, making it easier for Drive users to access, edit, comment and collaborate on Office files in Google Docs, slides and sheets. Supported office files are: Word files (.doc, .docx, .dot), Excel files (xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, (macro enabled excel files), .xlt), and PowerPoint files (.ppt, .pptx, .pps, .pot).
