Kuala Lumpur-based online mentorship startup Futurelab raises 478K in pre-series A funding

The Kuala Lumpur-based online mentorship platform and Adtech Social Enterprise Future Lab has raised $ 478,000 (RM2 million) in a pre-Series A funding round led by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC).

The funding round was attended by Malaysian-based US investment group Indeliable Ventures and Singapore’s first Adtech accelerator, Eduspez.

According to a press statement, the company plans to use the funds to expand its operations in Malaysia as the company brings more educational institutions and corporations into its mentoring ecosystem. The investment will be used to welcome and train an additional 8,000 IR4.0 guides integrated into schools, universities and startup accelerators using the FutureLab platform.

Founded in 2015 by Brian Tan, FutureLab allows students to join the community and connect with mentors, answer questions, get feedback and information about their career progress. It aims to create a community where people are motivated to share and learn from each other. The platform offers access to a wide range of industry experts and provides a platform where an individual can help them learn and ask questions to help them improve their dream job.

Currently, FutureLab connects students, graduates, job seekers and aspiring entrepreneurs with more than 3,000 industry guides from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia through its online platform. Assists startup education organizations and corporations to design, manage, and track their internal guidance programs with their Software-A-Service (SAS) business model.

Speaking about the platform and the latest funding, Futurelab founder Brian Tan said,

“FutureLab was set up to help new graduates solve the problem of disconnecting from their studies to joining the staff. Since then, we’ve been providing mentoring opportunities to young entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs. . “

With the latest funding, FutureLab is looking to expand its product development efforts, providing users with a more seamless experience, including launching a new mobile application that includes several languages ​​such as English, Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia.

Some of the brands currently working with FutureLab include Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Center, Accenture, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation, Tabang Imas Gagasan Anak Telvis, and Univ.

In 2020, HolonIQ has named FutureLab the top 50 innovative Adtech companies in Southeast Asia. According to a statement, the company plans to launch Series A rounds in the coming year to expand its leading market and advisory environment in Southeast Asia.

FutureLab raised anonymous funds in February 2020 in a seed round led by EduSpaze.
