Estonian EdTech startup Mentornot raises € 200K to start personalized education in Kenya

Mentornaut, an Estonian online tutoring platform, recently announced that they have raised 200K in a new round of funding led by the Estonian Business Angels Network (EstBAN).

Founded in 2020 by Markus Meresma and Gregor Mändma, Mentornaut is developing an online learning platform to bridge the knowledge gap and help school students reach their maximum potential. The platform was developed during the Kovid-19 epidemic when lockdown restrictions brought students around the world into remote learning. Mentornaut was founded noting that while distance learning and distance learning are becoming more common globally, parents are becoming more and more open to private tutoring to help their children overcome learning distances.

Mentornaut aims to increase inclusion in personalized learning. It uses a proactive approach to increase diversity and increase the group of teachers, including students, school teachers and experienced private tutors, to enable more people to access affordable access to personalized learning.

The startup claims that since its launch in Estonia in 2020, 2,500 private lessons have been booked on their platform. According to its co-founder Meresma, many have “rediscovered the fun of learning” through the platform. The company has launched its tuition platform in Kenya and claims to have seen more than 120 sign-up requests for onboarding in the first few hours.

Commenting on Mentornaut’s impact in Africa, Veljo Otsason, Superangel’s founding partner, said, “Mentornaut’s bold vision of empowering local education systems is impressive. Personalized education for children in Africa is still largely neglected but necessary to build a better society.”

It is worth mentioning here that the average student-teacher ratio in primary schools in Africa is as high as 42: 1, which necessitates private supplementary teaching.

According to the report, the new funding from EstBAN will be used to advance the automation of the platform, facilitating personal learning for parents, children and private teachers in Africa and Eastern Europe. Mentornaut’s long-term vision is to build individual learning systems to shape individual learning pathways and support studies in general education schools.

Mentornaut has listed EdTech lawyers such as Superangel, United Angels VC, and Bolt co-founder Martin Willig and Clanbeat co-founder Kadri Tuisk among its investors.
