Levin has been a player in shaping education for decades. President of the College of Teachers at Columbia University, President of Bradford College, and most recently, President of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation – which has changed its name to the Institute for Citizens and Scholars.
This book looks at Levin’s long flick of experience and uses the trend he actually saw to encourage people to think differently about what might come next.
One area that needs a new definition to fit in, he says, is what it means to be fair to higher education.
“Our current definition of equity is that we offer the same resources to all students,” he says. “Industrial life means that the measure of success and progress in higher education is time [spent in class]. But in the global digital information economy, we are heading towards an age in which the importance of time will diminish. And what we see is a focus on results. “
And that means that only different students are given equal access to a specific type of experience, such as, an online format for which they are not prepared, will not necessarily give fair results, he adds. “Students” have very different needs, he says, and we want to give equal opportunity to achieve the outcomes set for education. “
Meanwhile, the growth of online programs can change the role of prestige and prestige in higher education. Major online-learning platforms, including Coursera, are pushing colleges to offer more online degrees these days. As more students turn to these degrees for their degree, they can come forward as a provider to learn this corporate platform, don’t worry about which college has behind-the-scenes education.
“The provider we are going to in the world is agnostic,” he continued. “It doesn’t matter what I learned at Harvard. It doesn’t matter what I learned at Corsera. It doesn’t matter what I learned on Wikipedia. It doesn’t matter if I dreamed last night. Here’s what we’re talking about: Have you achieved results? ”
AdSerge recently sat down with Levin to learn more about his new book for this week’s episode of the AdSerge podcast.
